Diabetic dog needs teeth cleaned

Question:
But I am deathly afraid of letting the vet give him anethesia. I have heard so many stories about animals not being able to come out of the anesthesia and I am even less crazy about the idea since he is diabetic. Has anyone had this experience?
Here's a pic of my guy

Answer:
I had a diabetic cat,who had to have 3 teeth pulled and he came through it fine.
I of course was super anxious, but it had to be done, bad teeth or gingivitis can cause a lot of problems, especially to a diabetic animal.
Good luck with your boy!!

Answer:
As long as his kidney function and a general blood test come back fine, there should be no problem at all.

Answer:
I agree. Get a full panel blood test done first to make sure everything is okay. Then get the isofluorane given with the anaestetic which makes it easier on your dog when he wakes up.

Answer:
Taking all the precautions, I'd go for it. He will feel SO much better when his teeth are taken care of, plus you'll have averted future infections and all the antibiotic treatment he'll need.

Answer:
Well i certainly can add to this :

Find a Vet that will do BLOCKING. Which means doggie does NOT go under. It is just like us going to the dentist. A needle surrounding the area, that needs to be tended to.

Buddy being Diabetic needed teeth pulled and cleaned. Concern was going under. Spoke to several Doctors. All of them said Find a Dental Specialist for Canines. I did, and within 20 minutes (start to finsih), teeth cleaned and tooth pulled. No worries.

My opinion....Only way to go....Hope this Helps!!

Answer:
Wow, I've never heard of blocking. Thanks Buddy! That's awesome! I would definitely feel more comfortable with that. And thank you to Prin, Rainbow, and Badger, Chico. All of you have made me feel very comfortable and welcome here. I think you are wonderful people (but I suppose you would have to be to frequent this site ) I feel honored to have found all of you!
