Lethargic Doggie
Question: In the beginning of the summer of last year our Bernese was very sick. They never really figured out what was wrong with him, but he got better after antibiotic, steroids and joint medication. It took a month and a whole lot of testing and a lot more money. He's again displaying similar signs.. lethargy, lack of appetite (will eat people food when given but doesn't ask for it, and will only drink milk and very little water), he's still peeing but no feces for the last two days, he's seems to be in pain if he moves his front legs but we can't tell if it's lymphnode pain or joint pain. Of course there are not clinics open for a visit or emergency here. We have to wait until tomorrow. What I'm wondering is if there is anything that we can give him for pain in the mean time. We have no doggie meds.. only people. We have the regular nsaids, and buffered asprin as well as some script pain killers(mobic, tramadol and vicodin). My biggest problem is even if I can give him these I don't know how much to give him. I've got a call in to the clinic for them to return asap in the morning. If any one has any ideas, please let me know... Answer: First welcome to the forum and I'm sorry to hear your baby is sick. Please, NEVER give your pet over the counter medication. It could be lethal and cause your pet to die. Second, I'm sorry to say this, but a vet is the only one who can answer your questions. We are not vets here, only pet loving people. Answer: has he been tested for tick borne diseases? Due to the symptoms and his short recovery, it could be a possibility Many forms of tick disease are treated with antibiotics but the dosages needs to be higher than for normal usage and has to be given over the course of several weeks, he may have had just enough antibiotics to get him feeling slighter better by killing off some of the organisms in his blookstream but not all, and now could be they are multiplying and making him ill again Answer: It sounds to me the same thing I am having with my dog. How is the dog now? My dog was diagnosed with Leptospirosis. It is a rare disease and it usually only found in cattle. Mostly on farms or out in the country. It is from drinking water that is contaminated from rat or skunk or racoon urine. The water has been standing out in the yard. We never found out until $3,000 later. Our poor Touble (pit bull) is living off steroids and aspirin. She sleeps almost all of the time. Her breathing is very bad. She can hardly walk when she first wakes up, she is very stiff. She still eats and goes to the bathroom, but we have to help her up sometimes. She can't jump up on the couch or the bed. Good luck. You will need it. Let me know what happens!!! My dog has been ill since Sept. 11th!!! Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
