Tip of dogs ear swollen for no reason?
Question: My dogs outer ear is swollen with no outside wounds. It has been that way for a few days and the dog is healthy otherwise. Is this common and will the swelling go away or should the fluid be drained? Answer: I'd have a vet look at this and then tell you for sure what the best course of action would be. It would be impossible to know from a description--only a firsthand examination could tell you. Good luck and please let us know what the vet says. Answer: Sounds like an aural hematoma... It has to be drained by the vet asap or it will shrivel up and get all hard and crunchy. Answer: Here, this describes it pretty well, IMO: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body..._hematoma.html Answer: Thank you, you hit the nail on the head and Coco is now doing well. I think this post board is awesome and wish I could help more people with problems but a political science degree doesn't go far in pet health care. I will buy from the people on this web site. Thanks, Larry Strunck Answer: It's ok- we all come from different areas of expertise and are here to just share our experiences. I'm glad your doggy is doing well.
