I need some help identifying an illness to protect my pet
Question: I few of the dogs around my neighborhood have been exhibiting some very sever symtoms. They all seem to be throwing up a yellow/green bile looking substance. They also all have become paralyzed in their hind legs. They were unable to walk. Most of the dogs have died. Is there a certain illness that fits these symtoms? I am worried that it is contagious, and I fear my dog could catch, it considering all the animals are in close contact. Please let me know what you think it might be so I can get her help as soon as possible. Answer: You need to get to a vet for a diagnosis. There are no vets here to diagnose over the internet, nor would it be ethical. Answer: You should contact the department of health, whatever the other dogs have could also be contagious to humans or could be a poison they have gotten into which a child could also get into, keep your dog away from them if you have your own yard keep your dog on it until you know what it is and if your dog is not fully up on its vaccine better to do now, it might offer some protection just remember it can take vaccines a couple of weeks to take affect Also another precaution do not touch handle any of the dogs unless you bathe and change your clothes before handling touching your dog Answer: Have you questioned everyone (neighbors, vets, etc)? I have an idea of what might be happening, but I'm no expert, and even with more information, like jm said, we can't diagnose. Until you know what's going on, keep her away from the others (naturally), and be VERY careful of what she eats/licks outside (even grass), or where she walks (ie. keep her off the neighbors lawn, and don't allow her to run off leash). Washing her paws after being outside might be a good idea as well. Are there children in your area that could possibly get sick from this as well? Edit: Never mind... the last post said it for me. Answer: I would wonder if these dogs are being poisoned. Have these people taken their dogs to the vet to have them tested before and after death. Have the vets come up with any ideas of what they think it is. Answer: It sounds like the same thing that happened to the cats in my block...and they were being poisoned by one of the neighbours..we never did find out who although there have been some ideas Answer: sounds absolutely horrible and painful, definately go to (or at the least call) your vet explain what is happening.. you have every right to be concerned here. Keep a close eye on your dog and dont let other dogs around... this sounds so scary.... Answer: I would be calling the SPCA and police as well. Definitely do not leave your dog outside unattended. Good luck. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
