Don't Know What Happened?
Question: My 10yr old poodle mix pasted over the weekend. She started vomiting everything up on Friday. First I noticed a large about of grass. Then it was clear fluid. She couldn't even keep the smallest amount of water down. She started having what I think may have been seizures late Saturday. She would clinch her mouth really tight and she'd have this throbbing like sensation in the top of her head. The throbbing was so strong that you could place your hand over it and watch your hand move. I started giving her Pedialyte Saturday night. She kept this down, so I thought that she would be ok. However, the "seizures" were hitting her pretty often, too many to count. I tried cooling her down by damping her fur on her head. She vomited once more and her breathing became very labored, then she was gone. She has never had a history of seizures before. She did have several kidney stones removed this past summer. She was fine on Thurs. and Fri. morning when I left for work. I don't think that she got into any poison. When I would let her outside she was always on a chain. She was running and playing Thursday night. Can someone tell me what may have happened and if she was infact having seizures? Could this have had something to do with her kidney stones? Thank you. Answer: Did you at any point bring her to the vet? Answer: I wasn't able to contact the vet here where we live. I'm in a rather small town without a lot of options. Answer: Im sorry to hear about your loss. What about an audtopsy? ( sp?) Answer: I agree. I think at this point, a necropsy is the only way you'll ever know what happened. If a vet had seen the dog before it died, he/she might have had some insight, but without that, it's very hard to say. Could have been something toxic, a brain tumor... so many things. Answer: Sorry to hear of your loss. We just lost ours last week too. It sounds like seizures to me. They do not have to be grand mal. My first thought was antifreeze, but you mentioned that your dog was only outside on a leash. Like others have mentioned, it could be a number of things. Thoughts are with you and your family. Kristy Answer: Did she have her shots up-to-date? Do you have any other animals or did she come into contact with other animals? It's possible that she had a virus that may have been highly contagious... so you may want to keep an eye on any other pets and warn any other pet owners who may have had pets near her. I'm so sorry for your loss. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
