sick cats
Question: Over christmas we got a kitten. I don't believe he has anything to do with the sickness of my other three cats. (However I thought I should mention it any ways). We've pretty much kept him away from our other 3 cats, and our one cat started acting sick the day we got the kitten... which makes me believe it has nothing to do with the kitten (I think it takes longer to catch something) Our oldest cat started acting tired christmas day. The next day or so she didn't eat and began vomiting. So, of course, we took her to the vet. They couldn't find anything wrong with her in both an xray and blood work. They put her on an IV so she didn't become dehydrated. They also gave us medicine for her teeth because they told us it might be that. As soon as we got home she threw up 2 times and had diarehha. After giving her the medicine twice... now, she has been acting completely normal, but still isn't eating. She'll lick her wet food but thats about it. Now just yesterday one of the other 2 cats threw up in the morning. (he had hidden all day the day before). Now he is acting fine but now our OTHER cat is acting tired and not eating. All of this has happened within a week. What is going on!? They are indoor cats. So I don't understand how they could get the flu or a cold. The kitten has been to the vet and has had no problems so I'm 99% sure this isn't from him. They haven't eaten anything different except on christmas my three cats had catnip. I don't think that would cause anything though. We'll be taking our cats to the vet again. But when they can't find anything wrong it's frustrating. Has anyone every experienced something like this before? What was it? Answer: Is it possible that the cats got into something in the house? Do you have any pointsettias or holly? If nothing showed up on blood tests I would suspect poisoning, not enough to damage organs but enough to make them pretty sick. Answer: The only thing it could be is the catnip... we don't have poinsette because of that reason. But if they ate it about a week ago.... shouldn't it have happened then... not just starting now?
