9 month old puppy with neck pain

Question:
I have a 9 month old old english sheep dog puppy, All of a sudden he isn't eating like he used to barely enough to stay alive in my opinion. The vet says he is just in a stage. But now all of a sudden he cries out when he is trying to get up and acts like his neck is in pain. The vet says he can't find anything wrong. But i have read about wobblers and this is scaring me. Any suggestions?

Answer:
Get a second opinion some vets don't even deserve the title

Answer:
I have never heard of a non eating stage.
Definately need a second opinion, and fast. A dog who doesnt eat for too long, well i dont even want to talk about that right now,
Please head off and find a new vet, this sounds serious!

Answer:
I would also get a second opinion. Good luck and keep us posted.

Answer:
When I got my first dog, I was asked by many people (laughing at my expense because I tend to be a bit of a worry-wart) "Has he gone off his food yet?" It's not uncommon for a puppy to just wake up one day and say "no thank you" to breakfast, but if he's losing weight (most important), and seems to be in obvious pain (not wanting to play, crying and constantly trying to lick or scratch one spot, etc), then a second opinion is definitely in order.

I would immediately do a stool sample, and maybe even a simple blood test to rule a few things out.

Regarding the not eating though, at 9 months old, a couple days without food isn't going to hurt him so long as he's still active and not losing weight. However, it is still something to be concerned about, if it carries on or if you notice any other symptoms, or if he goes off food completely (will he eat treats?).

Definitely keep your eye on him and if you think there might be a reason to bring him back to the vet, don't hesitate to do it.

Answer:
Tyra fell down some stairs and when she was laying on her side and tried to get up, she would yelp in pain. When I knew she was getting up I would support her head. I took her to the vet and he said it was a pinched nerve. I had her a little neck brace that I made out of salt and socks to stabilize her neck and she was on baby aspirin for about a week. The vet laughed when he saw Tyra with her neck brace on but he said it worked. You should ask your vet and see if it is a pinched nerve. Oweeee they hurt.

Answer:
Wobbler's could be a possibility, although I'm not sure what the usual age of onset is.. My vet diagnosed my old dobie with it through an xray.

Answer:
There are 2 types of wobbler disease, one a herniated disc in the neck which normally occurs in dobes, the other is progressive narrowness in the spinal canal of the neck that pinches the nerves , usually starting in the hind legs and then affects the front, usually owners notice they are becoming clumsy and the gait is off, with OES's usually occurs between 3 months to a year and is of the progressive type. so may or may not be based on what you are describing, you would want to get some bloodwork and urinalysis done myelogram of CT scan other possiblities maybe Meningitis or neck injury

Answer:
thank you all for the help, i have found out he has Portosystemic shunt, Basically his body is poisoning itself to death, I can't afford the surgery to fix it. So i am making him as comfortable as possible. Thank you again for the responses.

Answer:
I am so sorry that you are facing this. Is there anyway a vet could take payments or perhaps one of those pet emergency credit cards that you can apply for at the vets? My heart is breaking for you right now.

Answer:
Do you mind if I ask how much it is?

Answer:
Bump for update
