Smelly Cocker Spaniel!

Question:
My Megan is smelly! I have had megan who is a pure bread cocker spanial for close to 9 years now. I have never had a problem with her being "smelly" before, however, as of late there seems to be a strong odor coming from her coat/skin? She visits the groomers a couple times of year and I give her a bath at home in between to get rid of the dirt etc.. that she likes to bring in.

Could the smell come with old age? Or could this be a product of her anel glads needing a good popping? Megan is fixed and usually only frags her butt on the floor when she gets excited or sometimes when she comes in from outside.

Please help me and my smelly Megan!

Answer:
If sort of a fishy smell could be anal glands, but I would suggest going to the vet and ask to have a thyroid blood panel, hypothyroidism a common problem in cockers and one of the things that can occur is very oily/greasy skin which than become infects and can quite smelly, treatment for is a thyroid hormone supplement for life which is fairly inexpensive

Answer:
Definitely could be the anal glands. The sooner you see a vet the better. They can get infected and swell up and it becomes a bigger problem to deal with.

Answer:
i agree with what was said. also, if you feed a low-quality food, it may contribute to your dog being stinky as the body fights to excretes the toxins through the skin and breath.

Answer:
A trip to the vet is in order for poor Megan. Good luck and please post with an update.
