weird bumps confuse 3 vet's does anyone know something that could help

Question:
I have a question about my 7 year old Boston Terrier. I have seen a number of different vets and have not seemed to get any common diagnosis or advice. My dog, within the past 8 months began geting small lumps all over his back and sides.(none on his belly or lower legs)These lumps do not appear to be sore, itchy, or to be bothering him in any way. He was put on some antibiotics for a runny nose and the lumps began to go away. When the medication was finished they returned. I have one vet who wants to screen for cancer($$$$) however i have never heard of cancer being treated with antibiotics. Another wants to screen for allergies also expensive. I was wondering if either of these diagnosis' seem to be better(more correct) than the other. I would like to try to put my special boy through as little as possible, as well as my wallet. Thank You very much for your time and advice. Lauren

Hi Lauren,

Hard to say - there are so many reasons for lumps and bumps. I have been reading up on lumps too, although my vet says our dog's lumps might be ringworm since they are near his eyes (among other indications). Sounds like a positive thing that your dog is responding well to antibiotics. Perhaps it is caused by an infection or immune system attack of some sort?? I guess it comes down to which vet you trust more. If you don't trust either, don't hesitate to get a third opinion from a vet recommended by a friend or family member. How much (if you don't mind me asking) would the allergy testing be? I am surprised to hear that it is expensive. Not surprised at the cancer testing be expensive. Just remember to not be afraid to ask lots of questions!

Let us know how it goes!

Hello...we also had some strange skin stuff with my younger guy Niko this year.....it was treated with antibiotics and it went away, but he still had some weird round rash on his belly , very faint.....vet tested for ringworm, fungus etc....nope not that...we treat by putting a little "Gardener's dream cream"...a natural antibiotic cream, on them....and it has really made a difference....the long and short of this is......have you tried putting antibiotic cream on it to see if that helps????

I believe ours is allergy related and we now have him on a raw, lamb focussed diet....he is sooooooo much better on it.

Good luck...I know how frustrating it is...Kimmee

Usually they start by taking a sample with a seringue. They can tell you right away if it's a fatty lump. And that is not that expensive. If it's not fat, they can send the sample to a lab, that is not that expensive either. Good luck.
