feline breast cancer?

Question:
First off let me start by saying, we have a vet appointment tomorrow morning for her at 11:10am. I am posting here to see what others think about this before we bring her in.

a brief history about her, we got Alley (purebred ragdoll) thru my fiances cousin. They bought her from a breeder. When their baby started breathing funny, the Dr told them it was because of their cat. so Alley was given to my fiances parents and then given to us. (later they found out the babysitters 2 year old put a penny in the babies mouth and it was lodged in the wind pipe for over a year! can you imagine???)

She was 2 when we got her and have had her for about 4 years.

Im sure she was fixed at a young age, either b4 my fiances cousin brought her home or if she wasnt fixed yet, she was prolly fixed around 6 months as im sure there was a contract stating she had to be fixed.

She has been to the vets a few times within the last year and a 1/2 for, coughing & a misterious pain by her front legs-and obviously the reguilar check ups.

They did x-rays for her arm pain, and it showed a spot what looked like to be the beginning of pnamonia. So she was put on antibiotics and they didnt really know what the pain was from, they thought fighting with other cats in the house. We told the vet our cats dont fight, once in a while one will swat at another but thats rare. And Alley wouldnt swat if it was to save her life, shes a ragdoll.. very calm and not a care in the world, she mainly sleeps and eats lol.

So we just avoided touching the spot and thought maybe its a weird nerve ending or something. the vet wasnt concerned so we werent either.

she continued to do a coughing noise, but on vet check ups the vet listened to her chest and it was clear. so we were told it was prolly hair balls.

So this brings you up to date..

Last night I was getting ready to do give her a bath, I was brushing her and had my hand under her chest and felt something. I looked at it and was like "OMG HUN SHE HAS SOMETHING STICKING OUT OF HER CHEST!" At first sight we thought it was a cat tonail, but as we looked we seen it wasn't. And like I said they dont fight. Then I was thinking, maybe she jumped on something and impaled herself!

We freaked out, I pulled it a little to see if it was in there tightly, it was somewhat loose and coming out easily. She didnt cry in pain and there was no blood. and b4 i pulled it all the way out, i was sure to feel around it, I didnt want to pull it out and leave a gaping hole in her chest. But i could feel where the lump of it ended, it was in shallow and off to the side. It was less than an inch long

It was completely out, no blood at all. So we relaxed and thought wow a gross massive blackhead!

So I continued to the bathroom to wash her. As I worked the shampoo into her I felt something else under there, it fell off in my hand. I finished washing her, got her out of the tub. I remembered where about my hand was and searched for the spot it came from.

I then realized... it was directly across from the other one.. and in line with her other nipples. Then something clicked.. I noticed by her armpits looked extra poofy. with wet fur, its amazing how much easier it is to see things, as compaired to dry flufffffffffy fur. I gently poked the spot that looked swollen. She about jumped in pain. I did the other side, same little jump. I touched the rest of her the same way. Nothing!

The coughing, the tenderness and now some kinda cheesy plug coming from the first set of her nipples doesnt sound good to me.

Could I be wrong? Am I worrying for no reason? Could it just be she dont like to be touched there, she had clogged nipples and she coughs alot for no reason?

What do you all think.

thanks in advance!

Answer:
I don't have any advice (not sure anybody will... because we can't really diagnose things over the net), but I hope everything goes well at the vet.

Welcome to the forum, alleys_mom. Sorry it's under these circumstances. Don't have any advice, but I did want to wish you luck for your vet visit. I hope you'll post an update when you find out what's going on!

Answer:
back from the vets and i was worried for nothing. the vet said she doesnt feel anything abnormal. she said she might of had cysts-the things that came from her nipples and she said she could have a spinal injury or arthritis or something which is leading to the pain. so shes on a diet. she needs to lose 2-3 lbs. shes on hills m/d.

said we might consider glucosamine in the future and because cats dont tolerate pain pills too well, she would only really like to use them if she absolutely needed them.

PHEW!!!!!!!!! thank god all is ok

Answer:
Just wanted to add that glucosamine isn't a pain med

Glad to hear she is okay

Glad to hear that things are looking up!

I hope she continues to improve. Getting off the extra weight can do wonders for sore joints. And glucosamine/chondroitin supplements have helped with a lot of our dogs' joints over the years. Although not all of our dogs responded to it, the ones that did had remarkable improvement after just a few weeks.

Thanks for posting back!

Answer:
yes i do know its not a pain med. she said we should consider that.

and said that she doesnt want to prescribe pain meds unless she really needed it, as she gets older she might need it.

my old dog (GSD/Lab mix who lived to be almost 16, was on cosiquin DS. So I am very familiar with it. But I dont think she needs it just yet.

We're going to try weight managing first
