cold or not ??
Question: My cat has been sneezing and coughing on and off ( not constantly),for almost 2 weeks now ,he is eating and drinking ,but I noticed bigger pee spots ,he isn't as playful as usual ,wondering if anyone has any advice as to whether I take him to the vet or wait it out a little longer incase it could just be a cold ?? Thanks concerned Newquay Girl. Answer: IMO, sneezing and coughing definately warrants a visit to the vet. cats are great at hiding sickness & pain, so any change of normal behavior, accompanied by sneezing/coughing is a sign to head in for a checkup. Answer: It's best to take your cat to the vet. Sneezing can often be the sign of the onset of a respiratory virus that your cat may be harboring, which would probably need a course of antibiotics. Cats often can hide their illnesses quite well, so that you can't really be sure how sick they are until they are quite ill. You don't say whether or not she feels as though she has a temperature, or if her eyes are 'teary', etc., but I would take her to the vet, just to be on the safe side. Answer: Yeah he has watery eyes on and off and no temp ! Thanks I think I will take him in to be checked . Newquay Girl. Answer: good luck! post back and let us know the outcome. we hope it's nothing serious. Answer: Hi , Newquay Girl checking in again! My cat is still sick ,but was doing ok for a few days ,he has a very stuffed up nose ,sneezing green mucous, and drinking more than before ,I'm awaiting the test results from blood tests taken on Saturday, they are due in tomorrow ,I'm dreading the results ,I have a bad feeling about them. Has anyone out there ever had these symptoms with their cat ?? Any info would be great or suggestions to help open up his nose?? Thanks Newquay Girl. Answer: I must say I've never heard of blood tests for what is clearly (from how you describe it) a respiratory infection and possible UTI. And even if they thought blood tests were indicated, most vets would prescribe a course of antibiotics right then and there, before any results came back. I hope things are OK and he gets the meds soon. Answer: I'd look into a different vet or get him to an emergency clinic if they don't have this sorted out by tomorrow. Answer: Hi , thanks for the feedback ,he is on meds amoxicilin , but its just about gone. The blood tests were to check for Lukiemia, urinary tract infection, diabeties . They didn't come in today as there was no mail because of the holiday, so it will be tomorrow morning now, thanks for your replys ,more suggestions welcome. Newquay Girl. Answer: Hi , Newquay Girl here again. Well according to my cat blood test results ,he has Diabetes !( the norm count is around 100 , hes 500 ) I'm so upset ,I have got him on a better anti-biotics , which is really helping clear up his sneezing green mucous etc, so thats good at least.I have not ordered the Insulin through my vet yet , as I wanted to do some research first, so anyone with advice please feel free to tell !! I have decided to try the natural way first ,with' Diaxol ' which is supposed to be a good product . Anyone out there ever tried it? Please let me know! Thanks Newquay Girl. Answer: I had a cat with diabeties a long time ago,it's really not difficult to treat, nor expensive. I had to give my kitty(peppi)one shot a day, difficult at first but we both soon got used to it. He lived a perfectly normal cat-life,but died at 17 of cancer, not from beeing diabetic. If your vet says to treat him with Insulin,I definetly would,it's a lifesaver. Answer: Thanks for the reply and input ,I have already ordered this natural stuff and want to give it a try ,then my next step will be straight to insulin, unless of coarse he gets worse then I'll just get going on the insulin. Thanks Newquay Girl. Is Peppi just a name of insulin ?? Answer: Oh no,Peppi was the name of my cat, looked very much like the cat in your avatar Answer: Much as I am an advocate of natural things, you say that your cat's glucose test came back 5x higher than it should be. I really think that this needs to be controlled with insulin before you try to do anything with natural remedies. By definition, natural remedies take much longer to affect your system, as in weeks, which may be dangerous if your cats levels are so high. Normally, mild diabetes can be controlled through diet (and its important that you adjust your cats diet for his diabetic condition), but this is only when diabetes is mild, not 5x higher than normal (and is 100 normal, or just the high end of what's acceptable). I really, really would go with the proper medicine, particularly if anything happens while he is waiting for natural remedies to take effect (like diabetic coma and death...) you wouldn't forgive yourself. Wait til his insulin level is down to a normal range, then see if it can be regulated naturally. Answer: Inisfad,I agree,if the cat gets worse,it might be too late, not any different than in diabetic humans. Answer: Hi , yeah thanks your right ,I guess I never thought about doing the insulin first ,I have notified my vet first thing this morning ,and am awaiting for a time to go in for his first shot. Thanks for caring , Newquay Girl. Duh!! I guess I should pay more attention to my e-mails 'Peppi!! Answer: Newquay girl.I also had a friend down the road, whos cat needed 2 shots/day and she(the cat) lived to be 21yrs old Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
