Bleeding while urinating? (Spayed toy chihuahua)
Question: Hello! I have a 4-year-old female Toy Chihuahua (six pounds) who urinates on a pad we put on the floor. Today I noticed that there was a reddish-brown stain on her pad a little bigger than a quarter. A few minutes after I saw it, I walked back because I noticed she had just been urinating -- the new urine was normal-colored but next to the stain there were a few drops of bright red blood! She has been spayed (about three and a half years ago), so it can't be her period... Also, the day before yesterday she was acting strange, like she was sick. Although earlier that day, she hurt her arm, so I'm not sure if her arm was in pain or it's related to what's going on now. In any case, yesterday and today she's been acting completely NORMAL, running around and playing, and she doesn't seem to be in any pain. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Her vet isn't around tomorrow and my dad said I should wait before I call them. I'm worried because this never happened before. =( Thanks! Answer: Blood spots on potty pads was the first sign of a UTI for us. Generally uncomfortable if not eventually painful. You'd want to start antibiotics sooner rather than later, Answer: I agree. She should be seen by a vet asap. Good luck! Answer: Oh, man, I didn't even think about the possibility of a UTI! Now that I think about it, that's got to be what it is... I'll be sure to tell my dad about it tomorrow morning so I can convince him to bring her to the vet. Thanks, you two. =) Answer: Possibly a UTI - or bladder stones. Bladder stones was the diagnosis with my mini Dachshund several years ago - same symptom as your dog. Please get pup to vet asap. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
