Temporary (I hope) Deafness in Dog

Question:
Hello everyone. This is my first time posting. I hope someone else has dealt with this and can give me some advice.

My Scottish Terrier, Scooter, is prone to ear infections. I took him to the vet and he perscribed Mometamax. The directions say to give for three days and then do an ear wash on the fourth day, then repeat. At first we did this for about 8 days until he seemed to be over the infection. After about a month, his ears starting paining him again. We started him on Mometamax again. This time we administered for about 2 weeks. I became aware that Scooter's hearing seemed to be impaired. We immediately stopped giving him the Mometamax and only did the ear wash for the next few days until we could get him to the vet. Long story short, turns out that Mometamax can cause "temporary" deafness in some small-breed dogs. It's been a little over a week now and his hearing does not seem to be improving. I can tell he can hear certain pitches but he can't tell where the sound is coming from, even if I'm standing right over him and yelling. Has anyone else had this problem and, if so, did their hearing return? If so, how long did it take?

Thanks for any advice.

Answer:
Sorry to hear about Scooter's hearing problem. What did your vet think?

I've never had any experience with Mometamax...so I'm afraid I've got nothing useful to tell you... But I do want to welcome you to the board. Maybe someone here has had similar problems and can give you some advice.
