I had my kitty neutered last friday (tomorrow that will be a week). the vet wrote in his take home letter that he did not get any sutures. he had to have a cone as he was licking and i was wondering how long he needs to keep it on. the operation site looks great and seems to have scabbed (yuck) over really well. how long do these things normally take to heal so that if he does lick it a bit that it wont hurt the healing?

I'd take the cone off and watch to see if he still licks. It's not a big deal if they lick occasionally, just if they do it obsessively. If he does resume licking all the time, there is a cream you can get which tastes bad, forget the name. Try him without the cone first.
