Bloody stool in my 5 month old kitten
Question: My beautiful 5 month old kitten, Patrick- had some fresh red blood in his poop last night..this is the second time in the past 2 months I have seen it. Not sure why- he eats well, dry and wet food- Nutro- the good stuff. He plays, is active and doesn't seem to be in any distress....he is up to date on all shots- even had the de-worming done in December. I am taking the stool sample to the vet to check it for parasites, but I am still worried and couldn't even sleep last night. I checked on his this morning and he was actively eating his dry food and purring. I was thinking he might have eaten some glass that had broken in my house or maybe a broken ornament that fell from our Christmas tree. What should I do and how common is this? Answer: It could be something as simple as an anal fissure, but take that sample in to rule anything else out. Nutro is pretty far from "the good stuff". It's loaded with filler and low quality fibers, and if memory serves me right (depending on which one you feed), the nutrition is lower down on the list (making the fillers the main ingredients). Any problems with constipation or diarrhea? Answer: thanks for the reply. No diarrhea or constipation. He has good BM's everyday. About the Nutro..it is the Nutro Max for kittens, a salmon color bag. My girlfriend and vet both said it would be good and was high quality- now I am a bit upset...what about IAMS? What do you think is the best kitten/cat dry food? I really want him to have the best...and I'm still worried about the bloody stool. My vet wants to see him tonight...what do you think? Answer: Nutro isn't the greatest but is far better than Iams or Pedigree. We have a great pet food forum here, you should check it out You have to remember that vets get little to no training on animal nutrition...and the only info they get is from the dog-food companies whose products they sell. You can find some much better quality food for your kitten at basically the same price as Nutro. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
