Can dogs sense things?

Question:
Hi. on a happier note, my other dog who is 5 years old, Wil the Weimaraner is normally obsessed with my husband. A few weeks ago when I was 5 weeks pregnant Wil got really obsessed with me and very protective. I was sat reading on the floor, he jumped on the sofa and kept pulling my shoulder towards him with his paw, he then put his head on my shoulder and wouldn't leave me alone. I moved places and there he was almost sat on my knee. That night after being asleep for about 1 hour, I woke up, was on my way to the bathroom and collapsed, Wil woke my husband up and the ran up and down the house crying, I banged my head really hard and had a slight seizure, my husband put me on the sofa but I was still shaking, Wil jumped on my legs and rested his whole body on me to try (i think) to stop me shaking. I was in hospital for a few days and everyday since, this is now 7 weeks, he's very protective of me.
I thought only female dogs were protective over pregnant women etc. Any ideas?

Answer:
First off (hugs) for going through that!!

Yes dogs can sense seizures. There are actually specially trained dogs that live with epileptic victims that alert them to oncoming seizures.

I've also known of dogs to sniff out cancerous tumours!!

Great job your dog did!!!

Answer:
Dogs and cats are amazing at what they can and cannot detect!

How is the baby now?

Answer:
Thanks for the replies, makes sense now. Wil has finally taken a step back and isn't quite stuck to me as he was. This may be a sign that things are going well!
The baby is fine thanks, I had my 13 week scan last monday and all seems well, really excited about it all and hopefully the dogs won't get too jealous with an addition to the family.

Answer:
What an awful experience!!

I don't think dogs "sense" things in the way that psychics might, but they are incredibly sensitive to our body language, and also can smell any changes in hormones, perspiration etc that we might experience when having a seizure, are very frightened, or have certain illnessess.

Apparently, dogs can sniff out certain types of cancer with a 99% accuracy.

Answer:
Yes LR you're right my bad use of the word sense should have been scent (what u said) what I meant lmao

Answer:
Yep, they sure can sence things. If your feeling mad, sad, glad, whatever, they can sence it. Dogs can sence the anticipation in the air when your packing to go somewhere to.

Hi Guys,
I actually lost the site for a while and finally found it again, I've saved it in my favourites.
I am now 39weeks and 5 days pregnant, I posted this when I was only 13 weeks gone.
An update on my dogs. Wil the Weimaraner has again become very protective of me and likes to lie with his head on my belly, everytime the baby moves or gets hicups Wil makes this very funny face (with people who are familiar with Weimaraners you will know that they have many expressions)
We have got them used to the babies room, allowing them in when we are in there etc and we have been given a few tips on introducing the dogs to the baby, here are a few, do you have anymore tips, I want to do it right from the beginning, Wil was our baby from 11 weeks old, I don't want him to feel pushed out!
Send home a piece of clothing or blanket with the babies scent on before coming out of hospital.
Get my husband to carry the baby from the car and introduce them outside of the house, I should make a big fuss of the dogs.
Let my husband allow the dogs to sniff the baby and spend as much time with them all together as possible.
Anymore information would be great.
I am now trying to download pictures of my two dogs, I remember a couple of you asked to see them and I now know how to resize them.
Thanks for reading.
