My cat's strange, new eating habits

Question:
As some of you may recall, my 18 year old cat, Mallory, had a tooth removed a couple of weeks ago. Although she is eating better, she is still very finicky. I have been feeding her tinned food as it is softer in her mouth. She now has a new eating habit which I wonder if anyone else has encountered. I put 2 spoons of food into her bowl. Maybe she eats one, then stops eating and looks at me like she is waiting for something. After a bit, I put 2 more spoons into her bowl. Again she eats one, then stops. This goes one this way, until I have spooned out practically the whole tin, of which she has eaten only 1/4. But she will not eat all of what's in her bowl, nor will she eat anything but a part of the fresh spoonful I give her. Fortunately I have other cats who will eat her leftovers, but it is such an ordeal. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:
Sounds like maybe she's not keen on the food or maybe her gums are still a bit sore? My kitty that had kidney failure was very finicky and would only eat a little at a time from a freshly opened can. Little bribes of small pieces of deli meat (he liked ham and turkey) or engevita yeast sprinkled on top sort of tricked him into eating more sometimes.
