Hi, this is my first posting, so hopefully I'm following the rules!

Our cat Chester, three year old male, was discovered humping my son's stuff Simba toy. It turns out that he has been doing this for awhile, and although he doesn't ejaculate (he's been fixed) he sure goes all the way. My husband threw poor Simba away, and now Chester is in a bad mood.

Is this normal behavior for a fixed cat? Should we allow it, or was it the right thing to take Simba away?

Oh, Simba was a very acquiescent partner. I couldn't figure out why he was so ratty. But no, Simba's been thrown in the trash, and Chester has not found a substitute...yet. I didn't know that cats could masturbate.

I have a couple of fixed males, but I've never seen either one of them do that. But my female spayed terrier does masturbate, usually trying to get my arm or leg. Of course, I don't encourage her when she's trying to do this on me. My gran's tiny pomeranian used to to like wildfire with a favorite slipper. I don't really think that there's anything wrong with this behavior, just that it can be annoying when you have company....

My Badger does this. I gave him a big old wool sweater, the only hump buddy he is allowed. He makes quite a fuss, even packs it from room to room.
My vet told me there CAN be ejaculate, but not necessarily, even if the cat is neutered. Sorry.

It's natural just as it is for humans and I think if he enjoys it he should be allowed. Maybe you could find him another buddy and just put it somewhere out of sight if it bothers you to watch.

I have never noticed humping in a neutered cat I have ever had but my bunny used to hump whatever he could find (my socks, pillows, etc). There are toys you can buy for bunnies and I assume they'd work for cats as well but I bought mine a Beanie Buddy (much larger than Beanie Babies and about my rabbit's size) and it was love at first hump.

We've had two males who humped everything stuffed or cushy. Blankets and furry animals were all fair game. They did it their whole lives. We used to just ignore it. I don't think there's a particuliar way of fixing it... just like some cats will need things relentlessly, some hump em the same way. It's a comfort mechanism for them IMHO.

One of my boy kitty's used to lick down there until he got an erection. He was neutered but one of his testicles looked like it had gown back. His brother was the lovey one that liked to do the humping but I never saw him with an erection. Neither of them ever did anything with toys or blankets though.
