Why does my dog make strange snuffing sounds??

Question:
Hi, I'm new here. I have an 8 month old Miniature Pinscher who lately has been making these really weird repetitive snuffing noises. She does this with just her nose (not like Kennel Cough) off and on for a few minutes then she seems to be fine for a few minutes, hours or days. My parents have a Terripoo who is now 11 but all his life he's done the same. Our vet doesn't seem to know what the cause is as he's never been able to hear it himself to make any type of diagnosis. It bothers me cause our MinPin has suddenly developed this strange habit too. Could this be stress related as I've observed this many times over the years and seems whenever the dog gets upset over anything it happens more?? Does this make sense to anyone?? Please, any advice would be very helpful! Thank you!

Answer:
If it sounds like hyperventalating through the nose inward it is probably a reverse sneeze and nothing to worry about. My dogs all do this from time to time and you can massage their throats to get them through it faster. No one is completely sure what it results from. Is your pup doing anything in particular when it happens?

Answer:
I'm not sure if I am understanding the question or not. My dog makes three

different "sniffing" noises. One is sniffing nose high and very deep, she sniffs quickly in and out of her nose, usually she does this when something/someone has been in our yard when she hasn't been. She does another one sniffing deep quickly but with her toungue tasting the air, she does this with new smells or stangers. And then the normal do you have food ? or where have you been? normal doggy sniffing. Are any of these examples of how your dog is sniffing?

Answer:
Cody has done that....sounds like she's snorking - inward like when you clear your nose but the backward way. My vet said it could actually be post nasal drip, and is nothing to worry about.
