Swelling in tip of ear
Question: I just wanted to start of by saying Hello to everyone!!! My dog is a Half rottweiler and half german shepard, Hes a male and 3 yrs old His ears are floppy and dont standup.... he has had ear mites before the left his ear with lots of wax, and a bad smell Just the other day i noticed on the tip of his ear, he had a small "air pocket" type thing. If you felt it, it was like feeling a pocket of air...well i gave it a few days and the only thing it has done was gotten a little bigger... Its about the size of a big walnut now. A friend said that it might be a rupshired blood vessel and it causing it to have a pocket of blood...that will go away on its own....the friend also said to just stick a needle in it and pop it.....thats sounds a little harsh to me If anybody has any input on this it would greatly help... If the "pocket" doesnt go down in a few days hes gonna see the vet.. Thank you for any advice Answer: I will bet dollars to peanuts it wont go down in the next few days, but rather swell more... sounds to me like a ruptured pinnea for sure, I'd head into the vet soon and get them to drain it properly and bandage it good... If you leave it, and it goes away on its own, you will end up with "cauliflower ear" it may get all shrively and gross... my cat had a ruptured pinnea and it went down on its own but now, with his cauliflower ear, he gets more stuff trapped in there than before, its harder to clean, and well it looks sad. Answer: I agree with Erykah. You should have it looked at quickly as these things tend to keep on growing and need to be properly drained. Answer: I agree, the best thing to do is go to the vet, if it is still small enough they will drain it but if it gets to big they sometimes have to do a little more. Answer: Agreed, go see your vet. He may have been shaking his head and wacked his ear. I've heard of this happning. Good luck. Answer: hello, My cat has the same thing. The vet told me it is from her scratching it. It is a build up of blood between the cartilage and the skin. It had swelled more and I brought her back to the vet. she said it will go away on its own. It has since gone down quite a bit. I definately would not stick a pin in it to drain it. The vet said it is not painful unless it is squoze. Pucturing it you are taking the chance of adding infection to the problem. Wait and see. The vet told me it does take quite a while for it to disappear completely. Hope this helps. Answer: thanks for all the fast replys!!! I called the vet today... and the swelling is on the ear lobe...she said it sounds llike an oral hematoma......i think that sounds like what she said The vet said depending on the size and if it involves the whole ear surgery would be nessary.....but if it is only on the tip of the ear lobe she said it could just go away on its on Thank you Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
