toe injury
Question: It has been extremly cold her -20 to -25 degrees celcius After returning from the park yesterday (where she had been playing fetch with several other dogs I noticed that my yellow lab - Indie - has a little bit of blood above or slight between her toes. Upon furthur inspection I noticed some ice as well and removed it. Now there is a small hard nub(almost cyst like in nature). It appears to be underneath the skin ( I can't see any broken skin despite the blood) and is barely visible to the eye. Though I can feel it and it does not appear to be causing her any pain. I've decided to keep my eye on it and will take her to the vet if it causes her any problems. Any idea on what it may be? Answer: It sounds like it could be an interdigital cyst....they are very common in male labs. I would get it checked by your vet. Good luck and keep us posted. Answer: Hi there! My yellow lab is Indy too. All I can say is they are rather accident prone, don't they? Answer: She is very accident prone, This is the second paw injury this year, in addition to an eye injury. I had a closer look at her paw last night and I could see something shiny in the nub. Also, feels slightly abrasive when touched. My guess is that she has some glass inbedded in the paw. Of course she is oblivious to it, but I'm going to the vet tomorrow regardless. The last time she had a paw injury it ended up costing lottsa $$$$ as we ended up in the emergency vet hospital. I think it's also time to invest in those dorkey dog booties - if I can even find any this time of year. I'll keep you posted. Answer: Well, look at it this way ~ at least those "dorky dog booties" will save you from having to wash her feet after every adventure out of doors to clean off the salt, anti-freeze spills, dirty-with-dawg-knows-what slush and hey, they will also protect her from cuts, abrasions, dry pad and frostbite. How about those "dorky dog booties" eh ? Answer: Ummmm...point taken Answer: Washing his paws after every outing gave us quality time together. And it earns him a cookie eveytime. I'd think it take just as long to put on & off booties for him. BTW, my neighbour was looking high & low in the snow for the lost doggy booty during the last snow fall. It didn't stay on very well.
