red dot and bald spot

Question:
What is this? hot spot? bug bite? and what can i do?

I noticed this lil red spot and the hair loss today
this is the only area on his body that i can grab some hair and pull lightly and it'll come out by the 5-10's (of hair)

Answer:
It could be so many things... Is it itchy?

Answer:
Before I gave him an oatmeal bath the other day he was itching like crazy around his neck area. So I think so

Answer:
Hmm... This summer Jemma was losing fur like madness, in clumps, but that was because of "swimmer's itch" (parasite from ducks). Not likely in winter, right?

Might be allergies...

Answer:
He doesn't go swimming. but it might be allergies.. FL has been weirdly cold the last couple days down in the 40's and then right back to hot.

could the switch from cold to hot weather play a rule?

Answer:
Could be dry skin, but then the fur wouldn't fall out as badly, I would think...

Did it go below freezing when it got cold?

Answer:
It dipped to freezing here last night, but Lake Worth is a few hours South of us so it probably didn't get to freezing.

As for what that is, I'm not sure. It doesn't look like a hot spot and for bugs, there really aren't that many around right now so I'm not sure about that. My guess would be some kind of allergy.

Have you been anywhere different lately?

Answer:
I have a lab that has round spots that appear on his tummy once in awhile...Actually it seems to be when the furnace goes on the spots appear..however I also believe it is a food allergy for us! I use a hypo allergenic food now and he usually does not get the spots....and he cannot seem to eat anything but duck as the main ingrediant...we have tried all the chicken, beef pork etc..he scratches like crazy and the skin is kind of flaky..

I dont think it is a hot spot either.. Good Luck

Answer:
Nope. Haven't been anywhere but the dog park but hes been going there for 3 months now.

He itches like crazy and gets flaky really bad sometimes and i have to give him a bath to clear them up.

but hes been on the same food for a long while now.
hills crap.. im just now started to get to the bottom of the bag and am gonna switch him from it though.

i got a 5lb bag of Natural Choice from a friend and i know its not that great of a food but someone said it was better then hills and i think he does better on it too his stool is alot more firm now and he also goings A LOT less.

but i know the spot isn't from Natural Choice because I noticed that spot the day I got the bag... so he hadn't even had any yet.

Answer:
So i just took him outside to give him a look over

the neck part has gotten worse and now he has one on his lower back that i found.

neck

back

could it be a type of mange?

Answer:
I think he needs a vet. Looks like either some kind of bite, or a serious allergy...

Answer:
Yeah, Were looking' for a good vet right now.

I'm gonna call the one my uncle goes to tomorrow and see what they say.

Answer:
Please keep us posted on the outcome Saber. for a quick and accurate diagnoses and speedy recovery.

Answer:
I wonder if it might be ringworm, it has the circle that is often associated with it and it gets really itchy. We had a rabbit once that got it and her hair fell out to. It's not a worm if anyone wasn't sure. It is transmitted through spores in the air (from what I have been told) but I think it has to come from another animal that already has it(not really sure about the whole trasmission thing). My mom had it recently from picking up a guinea pig in a pet store when she went in to buy some doggie toys. It was treated with a cream. The vet should be able to tell what it is though. Good luck and again please let us know what you find out.

Answer:
Were taking him to the vet tomorrow. I'll let ya'll know what they say.

but i'm just wondering.. If you feed a dog something hes allergic too.
How long would it take for something like this to happen if this is a food allergy.
could it start just hours or a day after?

Answer:
Depends how severe the allergy is. With Jemma, if she gets any wheat, within a couple days, her ears are infected. With Boo, who is intolerant to chicken, it can take more than a week before he starts throwing up from it. The true teller is if it stops getting worse when you take the allergen away.

Good luck at the vet!

Answer:
So I don't know why hes skin got like that. I think it was because when we took him to the dog park my niece kept kicking sand all over him.

But i'm happy to say my lil boy is doing better!
Gave him a bath in hydrocortisone and got the spray.
He isn't itching as much anymore and the hair around his neck looks like its starting to grow back!

Answer:
Glad to hear he's doing better.
