Frostbite

Question:
Hi all,
I've noticed the last week or so that Maia has some little scabs forming on the tips/edges of her ears. (boxer, uncropped natural ears). She loves to run around outside, and she wears a coat, but I had not thought about protecting her ears. She never 'complains' at all, but I think that she may have mild frostbite. Exacerbating this, our other dog Sam is constantly licking her, and today I saw that her ear tips look raw. Any tips? I was thinking of coating her ears in vaseline. Anyone else with a short coated dog had this happen? Is it vet-worthy do you think?

Answer:
Can you post a pic? Is she shaking her head a lot?

Answer:
yes i'll do that later ... no she is not shaking her head. I only noticed because I pet her ears and felt the scab... she is not paying any attention to it at all.

Answer:
I'm thinking more fleas or a parasite than frostbite, but it's hard to tell without pics... And I somehow think fleas are really unlikely...

Answer:
ok, the pictures suck. i'm alone here with no one to hold on to her and keep her still.
It's like she scabbed the tip of her ear somehow.

Answer:
And Sam doesn't bite them when he plays?

Answer:
hehe love nips

No, he doesn't. he just licks and licks repeatedly since she's had the little scabs. When they play it is mostly posturing and wrestling with paws (like your teethy pics but no contact).

Maybe I should take her over to the vet tomorrow, or call. I have aloe vera but not sure if that would help or hinder.

Answer:
No idea. Polysporin would help, I would imagine, but I don't know about aloe. Does anybody else know about aloe?

Where is everybody? You should be getting way more help than just me.

Answer:
Polysporin is what I use and would suggest! Sorry not much help!

Cindy

Answer:
Sorry, I can't be of any help. Aloe usually helps, but I am not sure

Cassie licks Hunter's ears all the time, but never to the point that they get sore.

I would call the vet to see what he or she thinks.

Answer:
I'd use a little polysporin until you can get into the vet to get it checked.
