Really frustrated..

Question:
HI all,

I have a Siberian Husky, he is about 17 weeks old. He is a very cool looking dog and does what a normal puppy would do, you know grab the shoes, tare the news paper etc.

The thing that has me frustrated is that out of nowhere he will pee on the floor, it is not a lot, it is just a little bit but enough to make a small puddle.

He is in a crate from 7:00AM to ~ 2:30PM when my wife comes home. He does not drink anything during this time frame and he does not go in his crate. So I don't think that he has a problem holding it, becuase he goes for at least 7 hours without going in his crate.

We have tried taking all the food and water bowls out of his reach (and the rest of the dogs in the house), but this does not seem to be the answer. Can any body give me any thing that I can try?

I am thinking of taking him to the Vet, but it is hard for me to take him to the vet becasue of his clinic hours.

Thanks,

Luis

Answer:
is he piddling because he's excited???

Answer:
Wow, my pup couldn't hold it that long and always went in the crate if left for more than 3-4 hours. So it does sound like excitement.

She would do the same thing though, just walk up out of nowhere and look at us then squat in the middle of the floor. As if to say, "I hope this spot is OK, cause it's where I'm going". We couldn't stop her but just said "NO", and immediately took her outside to the grass and said "Go potty".

It takes some time but it just being consistent. She now will go when we say "go potty".

And from what I know it's never a good idea to limit water intake too much.

Good Luck in training!

Answer:
siberian huskys can be very challenging to train sometimes, however 7.5 hours for a 17 week old puppy is far to long. can you have someone come home and take him out at lunch time? if not you or our wife maybe a local student a dog walker? many dogs will hold it for much longer when in the crate than not, and please do not withhold water for this long, especially because he is a nordic breed. ifs its a comfy temp for you its too hot for them, and they need alot of water to stay cool
i think you might be expecting too much from your pup they are going to make accidents. please just keep training him using positive reinforcement if the prob doesnt rectify itsself in a few more months then look into a vet.

Answer:
It sounds like you just need to teach him what you want. Having him not go in his crate(bed) is very different than when he is out and mobile. It sounds like the reason it is only a little is because you are limiting his access to water. Your puppy will still process urine. When he comes out of the crate he needs to be taken directly outside, no stopping.
