Cat seems to have pain in foot
Question: Hi, I adopted two cats from shelters who had been de-clawed on their front feet when they were about six months old. ( NO, I do NOT agree with this practice! I wanted to give these boys a safe indoor home) They are now close to two years old and one occasionally limps and holds his left front foot off the floor while sitting. He is not very active and has gotten a bit overweight because of this. Does anyone know of a safe pain treatment for cats? Answer: I dont recommend giving anything over the counter to cats, I think youre gonna have to head in for a vet visit and have him checked out, your vet may then prescribe something for the pain. Really its the safest way to go about treating pain. Answer: A trip to the vet is a must, I think. There is really no way of knowing if this is related to declawing or another totally unrelated health issue. It's best to be safe and have the vet check your cat out. Answer: Hi, and welcome to the site! As Erykah's said - taking kitty to the vet is the wisest move in regards to the pain meds. Even though the declawing was done some time ago.... it's possible too that a complication has arisen in one paw. I've heard of improper declawing procedures where the claws eventually started to grow again.. though I wouldnt imagine it would take 18 months. However, a vet could assess any underlying causes that might be causing this discomfort to your kitty, or prescribe safe pain meds if needed. Good luck, I hope a solution's at hand for your boy. Answer: Hi and welcome! I agree. A visit to the doc is the best idea, besides i think we are not allowed to advise on any meds here. (a good thing i think!) If its been going on for a while theres got to be a reason that may not be able to fix itself. Answer: Thanks everyone who replied...much appreciated. I will get him in ASAP!
