Tail Biting
Question: My dog is infactuated with his tail it seems and it's been going on for a while now. I'm not sure if this is a puppy thing (he's 5 mos old), a habit, or a medical issue. When we watch him play with his tail, it doesn't seem as though it's a certain spot only, he's after his whole tail. He will chase it in circles or just lay down and bit his tail at times, my husband and I are calling him on it and telling him now and then divert his attention elsewhere. We have noticed the fur on his tail closest to his body seems a bit shorter than the fur on the rest of his tail, but never noticed if his tail was always like that. Is this a normal thing for a pup? When does it become too much and when should we decide to take him to the vet to rule out anything being wrong with him??? Answer: I don't think it is a normal thing for a pup. It sounds more like an itch or something. Maybe it is a food allergy? WHat are you feeding him? Also, you can always get it checked by a vet to be sure there isn't something else going on there...
