Excess Salivation-- Chihuahua

Question:
Hi there,
I am new to this whole thing so bear with me. . .
I have a 10 month old chihuahua named Scrappy Doo who just today as started drooling all over himself. He is alert, playful, eating and drinking normally. Any suggestions?
I called the vet and their suggestion was to check his mouth for anything that could be stuck on the roof of his mouth? This has been going on for about 8 hours now.
His gums look good he has a rapid capilary response when you puch on them. So, I am stumped. I hate to bring him into the vet and pay $43+ just to have them tell me that I am overreacting. . .
Thanks.

Answer:
Is there any possible way he may have gotten into something toxic, dripping antifreeZe from a car(even by walking through and licking his feet afterward, or any household chemicals??? it could be a sign of poisoning

Answer:
The same thing happened to our boy, Ember, at about the same age (maybe a little younger). We took him to the vet to make sure there was nothing serious going on and they found nothing. The drooling continued for about 24 hours and then slowly lessened. However, to this day, Ember is the sloppiest drinker we have...

That being said, if the same thing happened again, we'd likely still take him to the vet for a once over just to be sure--it may be nothing, but there may be something you're missing, too. If it's a poisoning of some sort, waiting too long could be disastrous--and in a very small dog, things can happen so quickly. The way we look at it, the cost of the vet visit is peanuts compared to the consequences if something is wrong--and if they find nothing, the peace of mind we get from hearing it is well worth the cost of the visit.

Answer:
Drooling can be nausea, or as OG suggested, a reaction to a toxic substance, or it could be caused by pain in the mouth.

I'm surprised your vet just brushed it off without seeing the dog.

Answer:
You aren't over reacting ~ this is a tiny little thing who can't tell you what's wrong! I trust you've taken Scrappy-Doo to the Vet ~ what was the result ?

Yeah i was gonna suggest an upset stomach. A few weeks back Rosco started drooling like mad. A few moments later he vomited. Was fine after that. I called the vet and they told me the same. Drooling can be an upset stomach.
