Limping Lab

Question:
Okay.. The first "good" snow storm we have here in CT my dog (every year) runs his butt off. He then limps inside and limps for a day or so. Like he's twisted something. Well this time he ran outisde and jammed his toenail (back foot) on the deck. He has been limping for 5 days (the longest thus far). I can tell it is his toenail. No swelling, just red around the toenail. He walks off & on on it now, but still limps alot. should I wait a little longer or should I take him to the vet & spend the $150 for them to tell me he jammed his toenial?

Answer:
Because it is so difficult for a pet to tell you what is wrong, I tend to err on the side of caution and make a vet trip. They may tell you what you suspect - jammed toenail - or they may find that a toe is broken, sprained, etc.

If the limping has not gotten better over the 5 days, I would spend the $$ and get it checked out.

Answer:
He may have a sore toe but ontop of it he may also have an injury elsewhere that you cannot visually see, to me if the dog is limping beyond 24 hours it is worth the trip

Answer:
I think 5 days is long enough to wait. Please take him to the vet and post with an update.

BTW, welcome to the forum. There's lots of lab owners here (I'm one) and we'd love to see a pic of Jack.
