Dog ear-cleaning advice ok for cats?
Question: I don't take everything he says as the "word of doG", but I realy value what Stanley Coren has to say. My fiance is amazing with computers, and he has a PVR, so he records, and burns onto DVD for me the episodes of Good Dog that show on Life Network. I remembered watching one awhile ago about how to take care of dog's ears and so I re-watched it last night. Problem is that it's my CAT who has the ear problems. They're not infected, as she went to the vet in January and the vet said they were a little waxy but not infected, though she did send me home with a fungicide for them, which didn't change much. But they're not super-clean either, and have a bit of a strange odour to them (I can't describe it... it doesn't smell like mites, or yeast, it actually smells a bit medicinal). So my question is... Mr Coren recommended using mineral oil/baby oil to loosen any visible wax and then once a week using a few drops of household vinegar to keep the environment "unpleasant for organisms" as he called it. I can't see any reason why this wouldn't also be ok for my CAT, but I just wanted to check on opinions here. At the very least, it can't hurt to try it right? If her ears get worse or it just doesn't get better, I will take her back to the vet, but if a home-remedy like this will work, I know she'd appreciate not going to the vet. So, opinions? Thanks, Melissa Answer: I dunno if i'd want to be playing vet when it came to my cats ears. If they smell like there is something medically wrong, then i guess you know what im gonna advise... off to the vet. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
