Spaying wound

Question:
My baby was spayed yesterday, 08/27.

They gave her an Elizabethean Collar to keep her from licking
She has internal permanent stiches and the outside skin has been glued.

She is a papillon.
She looks absolutely miserable with the Ecollar on. On the way home in the car my husband was driving and she was on my lap, and I took the collar off.
She was on my lap so she wasn't licking anything.
The evening while she layed with me on the couch i kept it off.

She is 8 lbs 9 oz, so while she is not a teacup dog, she is a little girl.
She cannot eat or drink with this Ecollar on.

What I guess my plan is, is to while she is being watched for the next 10 days (which is how long they say to leave that on) she can have it off, as long as she is supervised.
But when I leave for work or at night while she is in her crate to put it on her so she cannot lick the wound.

QUESTION Does anyone know any other trick to keep from licking a wound other than that Elizabethan Collar??????
I once heard that aerosol deoderant would keep a dog from licking, but have found nothing when googling it.
I know it's for her own good, and that in the big picture 10 days out of her whole life to wear this collar is not much... but again... she looks so pathetic with it on and just looking at her you can tell she is absolutely miserable... I think it is heavy for her head too. because well the way she hold her hea wwhile it is on.

Any advise from anyone would be great... I am sure most of you have been through this... can you encourage Abby and I in some way, provide tricks, advice, etc.

Very appreciated!!!!!!!

Answer:
Is she actually trying to lick the wound? For us, we were fortunate that our dog had no interest in the wound at all and didn't lick it once so we didn't have it on her at all.

Answer:
The couple of times that she started licking and I told her, NO!
It actually did not look like she was licking the wound itself but the area around it that they shaved.
BUT, no matter how much I love her I have to say Abby is a sicko!
She is attracted to the grossest stuff... (glad I'm not a dog, I don' t have much of a stomach for vomit, worms, etc, LOL)

So I am afraid that while she is left alone while we were at work that she might lick the wound.

Answer:
Sorry, I think the best bet is the ecollar. Spraying anything on the incision site puts her at risk of infection.

Answer:
Oh yes, I definitely agree to not spray anything on the wound. Anything that is not recommended by the vet can cause some serious problems. I would say just keep doing what you are doing. I know the "lampshades" seem like they torture the dogs, but all in all it helps them in the long run. They get over it!
