Cat with seizures?

Question:
Earlier today I am pretty sure my cat had a seizure, he is about nine years old, healthy and we treat him very well. He was abused before we adopted him; his owner for the first year of his life was very cruel, and I understand that experiences like this can lead to nervous disorders. He was acting fine, when out of the corner of my eye, I saw him violently twitching; his pupils became extremely small (the room that I was in was fairly dim) and appeared to be going in different directions. Just as I went to get up to check on him, or get help, he stopped. He sat up, his eyes returned to normal, and now he seems to be perfectly fine. This only lasted all of a few seconds.

He does do similar things in his sleep, twitching and occasionally waking up looking confused. I am concerned because this the first time I have seen him do something like this awake, and I wanted to know what this could be. I'll be keeping a close eye on him the next few days, and hopefully get him in to see a vet.

Thanks.

Answer:
You need to take to vet,if it was a seizure what if it happens again, but worse

Answer:
YOUR CAT NEEDS TO SEE A VET. this is not nec. primary epilepsy but if it is it can be treated with medications.
seizures can also be caused by infection, brain damage, tumours, and chemicals (poisoning)

please write down all the details you can remember of the seizure and visit your vet asap. it could be the difference between life and death im sure if you had a seizure out of the blue you would go straight to the dr to see what was wrong, so should your cat

Answer:
Edit: Thanks. I plan on taking him to the vet, however we are down on money and just a few days ago had to take our other kitty to the vet for respiratory problems (she's all better now). This doesn't mean I won't take him in, it just means I don't know how soon I'll be able to. If I had my way I would be at the vet right now.

Also, he has been twitching like that in his sleep for as long as we have had him, and it has not been a problem. Just, like I said, this is the first time I have seen him do it awake.

Answer:
Is he healthy otherwise or could he have picked up the respiratory infection that your other cat was carrying? High fevers can cause seizures...but then again, if the seizure was due to a fever he should be noticeably sick right now.

Good luck with him.
