Jack Russell Stinks!
Question: I've got a 2 year old JR and ever since we've had him, he's stunk! I mean a real foul odor, kind of like swamp. We have to bath him every other day. I've tried cover-ups, shampoos, different vets but nothing or no one can seem to help. The last vet treated him for yeast which didn’t do anything. I'm going to change his food. He's always been on Science Diet. Anyone ever have this problem?? We need help! My wife cannot handle it anymore and he wants to get rid of my poor little guy. Answer: If your little guy has no skin infections and has a clean bill of health by your vet, by all means do change his food... you are probably smelling all the toxins and poisons being excreted through his skin from the nasty Science Diet what other brands of food are you considering? we can help you pick better ones, for sure! Answer: Is he scooting his rear? its not his anal glands? I suppose the vet ruled that out? I agree a change in diet would be ideal. SD is a low end food. Can I suggest Canidae or Innova Evo Also, be careful bathing every day. You can dry their coats out as your washing the natural oils away. Answer: Thanks for the quick responses guys! I havent considered any specific types of food yet, but I'll take a look at the 2 mentioned. According to the vets he's a healthy guy, although he might have a light skin allergy. At tiimes he does a lot of scratching on the paws and neck area, but even so, the smell has always been there. Thanks again, Paul Answer: I was gonna say check anal glands aswell. My friend's Vet told her that her Beagle needed it done every couple of weeks. Said that Hounds use that stinky smell to cover up dog smell when tracking. And boy does she smell bad when it's over due to be done. Answer: Diet change may help, also try a shampoo with 5% coal tar it will help to fight infection of the skin, Nova Pearls Coal Tar Shampoo, I believe it available in most petsmart stores Answer: I think it has all been said already, but I wanted to also suggest Evo RM, Solid Gold barking at the moon, DVP Natural balance Duck and potato, Sweet potato and fish, or Venison and rice, if you suspect he has a food allergy. And bathing so often might be making the problem worse... How are his ears? Do they smell? Ear infections can smell pretty bad... Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
