Malibu hasn't eat since Tuesday night

Question:
I have no idea what's wrong with her. She seems okay and play with Nova. But she sleeps a lot. So, my boyfriend thinks that Malibu doesn't like Candiae food. So I tried to gave her predigree can and she still refuses to eat. But she would eat treats. I think about taking her to vet and have her check up OR find another dog food for her?

Nova eats candiae food well. So it makes me wonder.. Oh, she drinks good.

I posted same thread in food forum because of the switch in dog food a couple of weeks ago or so.

Answer:
I would bring her to see a vet. Any period of not eating for no reason should definitely get checked out.

Answer:
I absolutely agree with HO. Any time a dog stops eating, it's a cause for concern. If she just didn't like the new food, it wouldn't make her want to sleep more...

Answer:
I agree with the others.....it sounds like there is something wrong. Please take her to the vet. Good luck and post with an update.

I took Malibu to the vet today and waited for 20 minutes for the blood work result. The doctor thinks she has an infection because she has low fever (not bad yet) so, the assistant said the machine "broke down" and we can go home (me and Stella) so she will text me in an hour when they get the result. Stella and I left. Stella said "where malibu? no no where malibu?" It breaks my heart. This time, she realizes that Malibu is not with us to go home. So, we came home and she saw Nova and screamed her name but she said where malibu.. (sighs) I am waiting!!!

Answer:
Just got Malibu home about an hour ago. So, she has a mild infection in her liver valve and she's on the medication. So, we came home and she was very thrilled to be home. She drank tons of water and ate some wet food.

The vet wanted me to call him back if any problems..

Thanks for your words to tell me to take Malibu to the vet.. My instincts told me to take her, but I wanted to make sure if any of you say same thing.

Answer:
I'm so glad she's on the mend!

Answer:
Glad to hear you found out what's wrong with Malibu. Hope she has a speedy recovery.

Answer:
Yay, Malibu! On the road to recovery!

I always listen to my gut when it tells me the vet is in order. Sometimes we end up with an unnecessary bill, but usually, we're glad we went...if only for the peace of mind.

Low grade fever can mean several things, or it could mean nothing. Since you mentioned that you switched dog foods a couple weeks ago (sorry, I didn't see the thread yet), I'm assuming there was a reason. If you switch a dogs food too often, or offer treats or people food, dogs will often hold out for something better. I knowa dog who got into the cupboard last summer and ate a tupperware container full of sugar cookies (got sick), then flat out refused to eat for 6 weeks. The only time the dog would eat, was when offered a "treat". It was usually people food, but he would eat kibble (as a treat), anywhere but at home. Not only that, but he would eat as many of it as you would offer him. They spent a small fortune on tests and new kibble, but the damn dog was holding out for sugar cookies.

Anyway, long story short, hundreds of dollars later... If your dog is acting normal (playing, drinking, etc) and not losing weight, chances are it's fine. Being tired of course comes with lack of nutrition (you'd be tired too if you didn't eat for 3 days), so don't worry too much at this point.

Good luck with the meds... Keep us posted!

Spirit,

Yes, but Malibu has been sleeping a lot than usual so I felt something wrong with her. Now it's a mild infection in liver valve.

The reason why we were very cautious is because.. we had a bad experience a few months ago. We didn't pay attention to Chevy because things were busier and I was sick. But Chevy acted so weird so we ended up taking her to the vet next day. He had URI and infections in the lung so the vet said he couldn't able to make it but he could be hospitalized for 3 to 5 days. So, it costs nearly 2 thousands and we wanted him to get better and told the vet to do it. 5 hours later, he passed away . We wish that we went back to the time and took Chevy to the vet earlier. But we didn't notice the signs because he was absolutely fine with the kids and play with the balls. But he showed in no interests in the ball for the last couple days.

Being deaf, it's hard to hear something wrong. So, we have to use our eyes for the signs and know their actions.

Malibu seems fine and she eats, but half of the meal. She sleeps a lot, but very alert and playful. So, I'm sure she will have a speed recovery though.

Answer:
Oh aboslutely! Sleeping TOO much is something to be concerned about. Glad everything worked out.

Answer:
I have a post describing a lung condition in my 3 year old Chihuahua, Gus. I just wondered if you could tell me what some of Chevy's symptoms were.

Thanks,
Dan
