The animal shelter told me he has a cold but...?
Question: okay the animal shelter I adopted Texas from told me to bring him back if he got sick. After about a week Texas got a crusty, dry, warm nose. He couldnt sleep and wasnt eating, so we took him back to the animal shelter who kept him for two days. When we picked him up they said he had a cold and gave him cephalexin, which we are supposed to give 3cc's every hours. We have given him his medicine every eight hours, but now he will not eat at all, has diarrhaea, and is throwing up. He seems to be worse than he was, it has only been two days but im not sure what to do. any suggestions? Answer: Take him back right away. He needs to see a vet as it sounds like he is very sick. Good luck. Answer: Very definitely take him to see a vet if you haven't done so already! This sounds very serious. If your regular vet is closed, you need to find the nearest vet with emergency weekend service. Diarrhea combined with vomiting can lead to fatal dehydration very quickly...especially if Texas is a young dog. Answer: Take him to a different vet (not the shelter) asap. I hope he's ok... Answer: we went to an emergency clinic about 45 minutes away, and it turns out my puppy had parvo, we had to put him to sleep. Thank you for your help though he is no longer unhappy! Answer: I'm so sorry to hear the news Parvo is such a difficult disease to overcome. You're right, though--Texas is no longer unhappy and is running free You did the right thing taking him in. You should let the animal shelter know if you haven't already (though it's hard to believe it wasn't discovered when Texas was there for two days of treatment)--parvo is very contagious and their other animals are also at risk. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss Answer: omg, I'm so sorry! That must be so devastating! If you adopt again, maybe a rescue would bring you better luck.. Answer: I am so sorry to hear about Texas. I agree you should definitely let the shelter know about this. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
