jaw problems

Question:
hey everyone. hope someone has info for me. my 9 year old female chow has been having jaw problems for aprox. 3 years now and it is progressively getting worse. almost every time she opens her mouth or goes to yawn, her jaw starts twitching. seems like she's hurting more on one side because of the way she tilts her to one side. i brought her to the vet, they sedaded her to check her thoroughly and take X rays but found nothing. our vet is absolutely great and i'll defenetly keep using her. i'm hoping someone might have some valuable info for me on this regard because it truly breaks my heart to see my dog in pain and not being able to do anything about it. thank god she can still eat. anything would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
i do plan on taking her elsewhere, just hoping someone might of had a similar problem with their animal so i would have some idea of what's going on. thanks though heidiho, nice to see so many other people who care as much about their pets as i do.

Answer:
It sounds sort of like TMJ syndrome in people, but usually an xray can spot the degeneration of the joint. Did the vet check for any soft-tissue abnormalities?

I think I'd ask my vet for a referral to a teaching hospital. Typically, they see more unusual ailments at teaching hospitals and may have a better idea of what's going on with your chow. Likely it will be a bit pricey, but it would be worth it if they can diagnose and treat your furbaby...
