Update on my HD puppy - Finn
Question: Hi everyone! I am so sorry that I have been neglecting this board. I have been spending alot of time on the hip dysplasia board looking for help for my puppy. In case you don't remember me, I have a 10 month old puppy, Finn, who was diagnosed with severe HD at 9 mths old. So, he's been on gluc for 5 weeks, and showing only minor improvement. My husband and I finally decided that we would explore the option/cost of surgery, as Finn appeared to be so uncomfortable. So, my vet had to send his xrays to PEI to be looked at (if you aren't from Canada, that just another province about 2000 miles away). I finally heard back. The ortho surgeon has said that she would like for Finn to wait another year. She said that, in SOME cases, a puppy can, not outgrow HD, but in growing, can lessen the severity of it. He needs good excercise and weight control. If he were to still need surgery next year, she would reccomend an FHO, which is the cheaper of the surgeries. So, I am very pleased. That gives me time to save, and maybe Finn won't even need the surgery! I was so glad that it was good news, and my vet was pleased as well. So, I just wanted to give you guys a little update on Finn's progress. Hope all are well. I'm sure I'll be posting again soon! Thanks for the support. Nikki Answer: That's very good news, Nikki! I'm so happy to hear it! Answer: That is really good news Nikki. Thanks so much for the update. Hopefully the surgery won't ever be needed at all Also like you said, you can now prepare for it if it is, but good vibes are being sent so that will never have to happen Answer: That's great! He'd be in such good hands at UPEI's clinic too. Good luck for the next year! Answer: Hi nikki, I know exactly what you are going thru. It hit real close to home so to speak. My dog Stosh was diagnosed with luxating patellas in both his rear legs at nine months. His knee caps were slipping out alignment, I gently help place the knee caps back every time. I found a supplement that helps reduce the number of luxations. He will need surgery, we are waiting until spring/summer, because we need to save $$$$ and it would be a safer time. I hope that Finn's hip will improve with age It is real hard to experience such a thing when they are so young. The good thing is that when they are young, there is greater success rate for these type surgeries. Answer: Good news. Fingers crossed for improvement . Good luck . Answer: Glad to hear the good news. so that it keeps going good for the next year. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
