Cat's Eye bleeding?
Question: My cat has one eye ithat has turned completly blackish red. I assumed she had a stroke and took her to the vet. . She sleeps constantly now but does get up to eat and drink. The vet said he doesn't know what it is..perhaps it was trauma, but I know nothing hurt her, she is an indoor cat. I have had her to the vet twice and he has given her two different creams and drops for her eye. This morning I noticed that her other eye looks likes it's bleeding inside. The last couple of days she seems to be coming around, up and walking around a bit, but now this...has anyone seen anything like this before? She is an 18 year old cat who has never had any medical problems before. Answer: I"ve never seen anything like that....in an 18 yr old cat, I wouldn't venture a guess. You could always take her to another vet for a second opinion. Answer: I think I have found the problem..I found a picture of a cat with eyes like hers..sounds like a hypertension problem. Will have to take her to the Vet's again and tell him..or better yet..another vet is probably a good idea. This one didn't seem to eager to to test for anything for some reason. Thanks anyway Answer: Vets sometime lack a spine when it comes to an older pet. An 18 year old cat is - in anybody's life span tables- approaching the outer limits of a good life. To treat or diagnose blood behind the eyes is tough and most likely is a condition that will correct itself either by ending the life of the animal or there is a slim possibility it will recover. Either way the vet may want to sit on the sidelines and hope you take the elder cat elsewhere. Some vets can usually tell in their own minds what the prognosis is and if the outlook is grime they may opt to let nature take it's course. Might not be the answer you wanted to hear but a very likely possibility. Answer: You could be right..I took her to another vet last night who said, yes it was feline hypertension. She could do blood work to see what the cause was but basically told me, it hardly mattered anymore. She had lost sight in both eyes and was now in discomfort. I didn't want her to be in pain. She said I had to think of her quality of life so I had her put down. Hardest thing I have ever had to do I think. She didn't really offer any treatment options anyway. She had a great life but after 18 years, sure will be missed. At least she was only sick this one week of her whole life. Answer: OH I'm sorry!:( But yes, your cat had a wonderful and happy long life, with only brief illness. She was one of the few very very lucky ones. But I know how very hard it was for you. You did the right thing absolutely, and the kind thing. I would have done the same. Answer: {{{{{{{Kem}}}}}}}} Be extremely proud of yourself for giving the kitty a loving home for 18 yrs. Answer: So sorry for your loss Kem :( . It sounds like she had a very healthy long life, Hugs to you. Answer: Thank you very much for the kind thoughts...
