Possible Cushings Disease???
Question: I have an 11 YO Cocker Spaniel named Biko that was diagnosed in January with a plasmacytoma on his lip. We had a full work-up at the vet school and found another tumor on his foot. My vet removed this tumor along with the two lymph nodes. The great news was that all the cancer was removed and there was no evidence of lymph node or bone involvement. They gave us a cautious clean bill of health with the possibility of reoccurance. Less than a week after surgery, my dog began to have accidents in the house and we noticed increased water drinking (twice than what was typical). The vet did another chem panel and found results that had not been present before - Alkaline Phosphatase 788 - high, Cholesterol 371 - High, Phosphorus 6.9 - High, Potassium - 6.0, High. His blood platelet Count was also high 408 and his Glucose was Low - O (that's right 0, "verified by repeat analysis"). A quick urine test indicatedno blood in his urine and it did not appear diluted. He looks healthy and has never demonstrated any of the other obvious signs of Cushings. The vet mentioned the possibility of Cushings disease or a stress reaction to all the surgeries and medications related to surgery. We're trying a medication to calm him tomarrow to see if that will work. She says the tests for Cushings will be about 400-500 dollars and we have already spent about $2500 in the last month for everything else. If this doesn't help we'll do whatever it takes to help our little guy. Looking through the web, this seems to be a curious profile for Cushings and I'm very confused reagridng the Glucose level. Does anyone have any thought or advise? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Answer: I've never dealt with Cushing's personally, but I wanted to wish you luck. Hopefully it's nothing too serious. Answer: Thanks so much for your response! I'm insane with worry right now and it was just nice to see a response to the post. Answer: I can't imagine how worried you must be. I found this thread on Cushing's that might help... maybe.. Answer: Thanks for that thread! It helped me find a Cushings forum and I'll be reading ALL evening! Answer: My thoughts and prayers are with you wmarsich. Biko has been through so much already, I hope everything works out alright, and that it isn't Cushings. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
