open sores
Question: Hello, I could really use some help. I have a German Shephard, about 14 years old. For the past few months he develops these open sores, mostly under his back legs and groin area, and on his side. I took him to the vet and they can not give me an answer, (maybe allergy, lupus, or an auto immune disease.)They begin red, then ooze, and crust over. At first it was a small area, but now it is totally underneath his legs and a large spot on his left side. His back legs are stiff, thought it was arthritis, so he is on rimadyl, but no other daily medication. He is on Zeniquin for the infection now. Blood test show a slight wbc elevation. I have seen 3 vets and nobody seems to be able to solve his problem. Does anybody know about lupus or have had this problem with their dog? Please help. Answer: Could he be allergic to something in his food? What are you feeding him? Can they actually test for lupus? I wouldn't make the connection between the stiffness and the sores for now. Answer: He has been eating Pedigree his whole life. They want to do a skin biopsy, but I don't know if they can check for lupus. I don't think the stiffness is related to the sores, he has some arthritis in his hips. However I read that lupus does stiffen the joints. I just want him to feel better and find a cure for the sores. Thanks Answer: Maybe one of Natural balance's allergy formulas would help... http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/allergy/home.html Answer: I agree..Winston used to get spots that sound exactly like the ones you described...the food change did take the spots away.
