Puppy scraping her behind on carpet...
Question: Hello once again... my puppy Kayah (from those who remember from my past thread) is doing much better nowadays... active, wagging her tail like crazy, and eating like there's no tomorrow. Just yesterday though, she started dragging her behind on our roughest rugs. I found it quite cute and a bit hilarious but I'm wondering if it's something to cause any concern. We've got an appointment to see our vet this wednesday... should I try to set an earlier appointment? Thanks again.. Answer: my guess would be the anal glands may need emptying. I have never had a dog w/ this problem (knocks on wood) but it IS very common. I'm not sure how soon you need to get to the vet though. I think your best bet, is to call the vet, explain what your dog is doing, and ask if they think you should come in sooner than wednesday. it never hurts to call and ask. good luck! Answer: you say she is eating like crazy.............is she eating more than usual? Has she been wormed? just wondering.....could be anal glands to .... Answer: There are only two things that I have experienced that cause this. 1. Anal glands are full and need to be cleaned. There is no need to make an extra appointment or an earlier appointment (unless it's really bugging you or your dog seems to be in pain), just remember to ask the vet to check them when your their. My vet will do this for free when your there for a regular visit. 2. Itchy bum, my aunt's dog Pixie, does this ALL the time. Usually it's because she's itcy from dirt. we just wash her and she's good to go, the behaviour stops. I would say, give your dog's bum a bath, if that doesn't clear it up, tell the vet when you go on wed. I would probly ask the vet to check her glands when your there anyway. Answer: I agree with the others....it's either worms or anal glands. Answer: I have to agree with the others! If it's the anal glands that need to be emptied, you may notice a foul smell in the areas he's been rubbing. It's really hard to explain, but it's very distinctive; you'll know it when you smell it! Kind of like rotten eggs and sausage mabye? LOL! My sister's min pin has this problem all the time and Petey's had it once so far. Some dogs are more prone than others. A quick trip to the vet to get them emptied makes a world of difference. In any regard, it sounds like a trip to the vet is in order just to make sure! I would think Wednesday would be OK though.
