Kennel Cough
Question: Hi there, I've been reading everyone's posts on here about Kennel Cough. My dog just started with an awful, dry hacking cough last night, and it's still continuing today and it had me very worried, although I'm a big more relaxed now that I'm reading and learning about what it probably is. He also is sneezing alot and, for a lack of a better word, has "snot" coming out of his nose. Last night I made him drink water and he immediately regurgitated it - nothing else came up except the water and some goo. Today I managed to clean up a lump of what looks like phlem that came out while he was coughing. It also seems that he's omitting somewhat of a smell.. it's not his usual smell. I'm tempted to say it smells like his bad breath, but 100 times worse that I can smell it without directly smelling his mouth. Now, our vet likes to make us spend as much money as possible, and we've been to several vets in the past in the area and they've all been the same, so I'm reluctant to take him to see the vet without prior knowledge on what could be wrong. So with all these posts, I'm guessing that it IS Kennel Cough. But you say that it heals on it's own, however it might need to be treated if there's more of an infection or pheumonia. If I let this heal on it's own without taking my dog to the vet, how do I know that it's not worse than it seems and that he needs to be seen? I really want to take him to be seen because hearing this cough and seeing the sad look in his eyes just breaks my heart, but I know that my vet will want to do dozens of tests and rack up a huge bill. Any advice on what my next move should be would be great. (and, my apologies for such a long post). Answer: I would still take him to the vet for some antibiotics? If your not happy with your vet can you take him somewhere else! Seems to me it could be like humans where some can fight it off and others cant? Cindy Good Luck Answer: Welcome JTF1983, Unfortunately our members are not vets and unable to address potentially serious health issues like this one. Time is critical - please contact a vet immediately. Good luck, we'll watch for an update on your pet's condition. In keeping with site policy, this thread will now be closed.
