Dog wheezing? I don't know how to describe it...

Question:
We just got this 1 year old female chihuahua. She's half short hair, half long hair.

She's been an absolute angel around the house, always running around, wagging her tail.

BUT, occasionally she gets these "coughing" attacks. They don't sound like coughs though, but more like...a donkey? Yeah, more like the sound a donkey makes except its a bit lower and more blunt. The "cough" attacks come once or twice a day, and last for about 10-15 seconds, but after the cough attacks, she's right back to normal.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with her? She seems to be fine everywhere else... No diarrhea or loss of appetite or anything.

Actually, we were at the petstore earlier today, when she got a cough attack. Some lady walking by murmured that she had a "rubber throat"? I looked it up online when I got home but couldn't find anything about it.

Thank you for taking the time to read!

Answer:
maby reverse sneeze, my min pin has this good luck let us all know brenda and the 5 pins.

Answer:
Could be reverse sneeze, but is there a chance she might have worms? Any diarrhea? Sometimes if a dog has worms they might throw up or try to throw up, but the sound is slightly different than the usual pukey sounds (much like a donkey).

Kennel cough is much more of a cough (hacking, dry), as is damage to the vocal chords, but it best not to rule it out anyway.

Definitely check with your vet.

Answer:
It certainly sounds like reverse sneezing. If you do a search here for it you will turn up several threads talking about it. However, I agree with Spirit that a vet visit is in order to rule anything more serious out. Good luck!

Answer:
Thanks! Definitely planning to go to the vet tomorrow. I'm about to look up symptoms on reverse sneezing since so many people already mentioned it.

Answer:
