Question:
My dog is almost 2 years old. She is part chihuahua and part yorkshire terrier. Whenever she gets really excited, like someone comes to visit her, she has trouble breathing and it sounds like she is hyperventilating. It can last for 5 secs or for 2 minutes depending on how worked up she is. I can usually calm her down by petting her and telling her to breathe. Does anyone know what is happening to her and if it's serious or normal?!

It sounds like a reverse sneeze. There is a section in the Pet Encycolpedia about this that you may find helpful. My dog does this as well. I did get it checked by the vet though just to make sure what was happening.
