Anesthesia in elder cats
Question: Hello, I just recently took my 15 year old siamese mix male to the vet for an annual checkup. My doctor found a lump near his nipple and said it could possibly be breast cancer! She suggested it should be removed and sent to lab and ran through various tests. After the CBC results came back, she said that going under anesthesia might cause kidney failure. After testing his urine, she said that his kidney's were "okay", not great but not bad. I asked the doctor if there could be any other way to remove the tumor and she suggested local anesthesia and sedation. (My Snowball is a very well mannered cat, he probably would not struggle much, even being cut slightly open). My question is: what is the risk of local anesthesia compared to full anesthesia? I love my kitty very dearly and I would hate anything to happen to him! He goes under the knife this Wednesday so a reply before then would be much appreciated! a pray would help also! Thank you, Answer: I'm not 100% sure of all the risks of local, but general anaesthesia is really hard on the kidneys. It sounds like your vet is taking good care of your kitty... You should have more responses by morning though (better ones, from people with tons of kitty experience ). Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
