Question:
My cat had an abcess on his neck, just under the chin. I took him to the vet and he put him on penicillen for 10 days. We have just finished and he still has an abcess lump there. It doesn't hurt him, in fact it must be itchy as he moves his head around so I will scratch it. It is much smaller than it originally was. I wonder if it will just go away on it's own or will cause the abcess to flair up again? I really don't want his cheek shaved and to have it lanced if I can avoid it. I will call the vet tomorrow and ask his opinion, but just wondered if anyone has had this happen?

If the lump is smaller and harder, that generally means it's getting better. Scratch carefully, if at all!
Just keep your eye on it. If it starts to feel puffy or looks inflamed, have a conversation with your vet.
