well, what a week we have all had... this food recall has everyone out of their minds with fear.

But I am glad to say that someting good happened to me today.

I decided over the weekend that I was going to start Lexie on home blood testing for her diabeties, but it seems to be a little costly, mainly for the strips.

So I contacted the Diabeties organisiation here in New Zealand, and the really nice lady said that she would send me a Glucometer "for free" since it was for my baby. She also advised me to get a letter from my vet and see if my doctor would prescribe the strips for the glucometer. If it is prescribed by a doctor it is subsidised by our government... so instead of paying NZ$55 for 50 strips, I only have to pay NZ$3!!! - well my doctor said he would write me a prescription!
I am so happy.
(hopefully no-one in NZ finds out about this).

So any advise on home diabeties testing would be greatly appreciated.

I also forgot to mention that the Glucometer is one that does both blood and urine, so im really happy.

Hello and congratulations on taking the plunge and deciding to hometest. I have a diet controlled cat and hometesting helped us get out of a cycle of rebound and hypo and get her off insulin altogether...
