Thyroid test tomorrow
Question: I called the vet this morning about what happened last night with Louie. Unfortunately they werent able to fit me in today, or even tomorrow with my favored vet, but I was able to get an appointment tomorrow afternoon with another vet in the same office (I have seen him before, but just dont like him as much as the female one I usually see). But I wanted to get in as soon as possible, so I took it. I plan to, of course, recant all that happened and explain how this happens every few weeks, and how I know its not food related because I checked the ingredients for all the foods I have fed him and there none overlapping, and how I thought the heat may have triggered the episode(s), and how he tested negetive for all other parasites, etc. And I plan to insist on a thyroid test. I was just wondering if there were any questions I should ask about the thyroid test? (or anything I should know about it) or if there are any other things we could possibly test for while we're at it? I've been reading up online but if anyone has any specific helpful links, that would be greatly appreciated! Answer: I don't know much about thyroid issue , but just wanted to tell you good luck and I hope the vet finally does find what is the problem Answer: Yes, I have a comment. If the T-4 shows a low thyroid (hypothyroid), have the vet do more testing before putting him on thyroid hormones. For dogs, the normal range is 1.0 to 4.0 and my dog's results came back as a .7. The vet put her on thyroid hormones about 6 weeks ago and I just had a new T-4 done a couple of days ago. The results came back as a 14.0! Needless to say, I am taking her off the hormones. There are more tests that should be done before going to meds. Good luck and I hope things turn out well! Answer: Originally Posted by Mypetsrmykids Yes, I have a comment. Answer: On my test results, the lab mentioned at the bottom of the report that they could do a Free-T4 by equilibrium. It's one type of test. I should've gone that route. You can ask your vet what he thinks is best but I know there are a few more that can be run. I don't remember what they are but he would know. Please let me know how it turns out. Answer: That might've sounded a little confusing. In my case, I did the T-4 and should've followed up with a Free-T4 by equilibrium dialysis. I hope that makes more sense. Your vet may want to follow up with something different. Answer: Sissanni....how did the vet visit go? Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
