Puppy licking/bum spins
Question: Hi there, I am new to this and also a new puppy owner. I have a 4 month old Japanese Chin who weighs 4.3 pounds. She is kennel trained, housebroken and we just started puppy kindergarten. She was recently diagnosed with puppy vaginitis and the symptons were so bad (licking constantly, red vulva) that she was put on Clava?? (amoxicillian - I think). She was on it for 7 days and just finished 2 days ago. Within 2 days of being on the meds, she stopped licking and redness disappeared. She has now completed the meds (2 days ago) and licking has started along with sitting down and turning herself in circles. I am not sure if it is her vulva or her bum that is now bothering her. She has normal bowel movements, but I have noticed that she is not eating very well these days. On our walks, she just wants to sit on the cement or grass and rub herself by dragging or turning in circles. I will be calling my vet today, but was hoping someome else had experienced this. Will she have constant problems like this throughout her life? It kills me to see her suffering! Answer: First of all, welcome to the board and we'd love to see pictures of your baby. Has she been wormed? Answer: Maybe her anal sacs need emptied? Answer: Thanks for your replies. She has been wormed and last week a fecal sample was done and it was negative. I called the vet and they are going to give her another dose of antibiotics (without even seeing her). They said (on the phone) that if I don't see an improvement in a couple of days to bring her in to have her anal glands checked. So I guess I will follow this advice. Thanks again for your help! It's hard being a new mummy and having to see your baby suffer from this! Answer: If she were my pup I would take her into the vets and have them express her anal glands in case thats the problem instead of another round of antibiotics, and your vet should do this at no extra charge since he's not sure the cause isn't anal gland related. My own vet does not charge for multiple visits for the same condition. Answer: Hi Micheau My female dog has the same problem. Unfortunely it comes and goes, she is 9years old. Vet said its related to her diet and ph balance in urine etc(which I have to admit she was is spoiled rotten when it came to food). She has been on a Nutro choice brand dog food for about 6 months now and seems to be staying clear. We also used huggies baby wipes (extra sensitive) to ease some discomfort. Hope this helps :-) Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
