Help! I think my cat isn't urinating!
Question: I have my first cat ever, an 8 year old male cat that I adopted from the shelter in January. My problem is today I was sitting on my couch and noticed there was a sour smell on one of my blankets, when I asked my boyfriend he said it smelt like cat pee. I then went into my spare bedroom and noticed the same thing on the bed. He was in the litter box and I was standing close by he was there for almost 20 sec and he only peed a couple drops then ran out of the litter box. HE went back to the litter box several times where he would scratch the box almost like he is going to dig through the box. Every time he would fly out of the box and run to the other side of the apartment. He still eats and drinks and has the same personality. I clean the litter box everyday, so I know that is not because it is dirty why he isn't using it. What can it be? How can I help him until I can get into the vet? And finally is there any remedy to get the smell of his pee out of my furnitaure? Please help I don't like him feeling bad! Answer: congrats on your new kitty. please take him to the vet as soon as possible. . he may have chrystals. Cats have a tendancy to pee in places you will notice when they need you to know something is wrong, or if they are mad at you, but it sounds like hes struggling. Answer: I agree, this definately sounds like urinary infection/crystals which can be life threatening if not treated. I would get to your vet ASAP. What causes it? And how is it treated? Sorry for all of the questions, I just have never had a cat and many people believe that I am an over paranoid person all of the time so they think I am over reacting now! Answer: Here are two links for you that discuss it. Based on the behaviour you described I would say this is definately an issue and you should take him to the vet. I have had two cats over the years with this issue and the first one ended up extremely sick because I didn't know what the isssue was . http://www.lbah.com/feline/flutd.htm http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body...tract_dis.html Answer: Troy forgive me ~ I'm going to be blunt here. Your "light" is still on which tells me that you are on-line... your cat could well be in a life or death situation. If there's blockage, they can die within hours. It's THAT serious with cats. Please ~ you need to take your cat to a Vet - NOW. Answer: Well, I hope you took mummummum's advice because your "light" is now off. Good luck and please post with an update. Answer: I think the cat should go to the vet too but just in his defence about the light on-line comment - we leave our computer running all day and if I forget to log out then it may appear that I am still there but that doesn't mean that I am physically at the computer. Answer: Welcome to the site, Troy 98. As noted, this is an URGENT situation. Your cat requires a vet immediately. Delaying has proved fatal for pets. Good luck to you, we'll watch for an update. In keeping with site policy, this thead will now be closed. Answer: Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.tendlife.com
