urinary tract infection.
Question: hi everyone. i was wondering.... my brothers cat recently had a urinary tract infection and he almost died. thank god my brother got him to the vet on time. after a very costly bill he is now feeding both his cats a medicated canned food that can only be purchased at the vets. so i was wondering if anyone knows of a food with no ash content can be purchased anywhere else? it's costing him about sixty dollars a case now and he really is having a hard time affording it. he loves his cats very much and would go hungary himself before he would let his cats starve. there must be another food out there cheaper.please help. i've tried looking myself but has no luck. thanks so much, sherri. Answer: I don't know any that are that low ash... Sorry... (Hopefully, Kitty-knowers will respond better..) Answer: Hi Sherri, I found this while I was searching for low ash...very interesting. http://petnblog.preciouspets.org/?p=470 Instictive Choice cat food INGREDIENTS: Organic Chicken, Chicken Liver, Chicken Broth, Turkey, Chicken Meal (Preserved With Mixed Tocopherols), Shrimp, Fish Oil, Ground Agropyron Repens Grass, Calcium Sulfate, Guar Gum, Minerals (Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Cobalt Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Sodium Selenite, Potassium Iodide), Choline Chloride, Sea Salt, Taurine, Vitamins (Vitamin E, A, D3, B12 Supplements, Thiamine Mononitrate, Niacin, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, Folic Acid, Biotin), Inulin, Rosemary, L-Carnitine. Answer: Eagle Pack has low ash also...not sure how low you need to have to be safem but here is the web page http://www.postalpetsproducts.co.uk/cat_food.htm Answer: I understand how costly the food is as I have one of my cats on the same one or similar one from the vet. He's had problems twice and I decided along with the vet just to keep him on the food. I pay $31 a case before tax and my old vet in London who I thought might be cheaper(since I am going down for a vist thought I would stock up) is charging $39 a case. I have tried looking for an alternative to but am to paranoid. I agree with the article talking about how it's more than or not ash content but has to do with a lot of the ingredients and how much and little of somthing there is and what the ingridents are. Ph control of the urine is very important as is feeding canned(I give mine canned twice a day and dry once). Maybe consult with an holistic vet and see if they have another food(s) they could reccomend. I would in the mean time call around to other clinics and see what they charge for the food. There are no real guidelines on what they have to charge for food so every clinic will have a different price. I have just started feeding canned and dry mixed together to stretch the canned food a little farther since the dry lasts so much longer. Good luck and I hope he can find something.
